A number of unique architectural achievements from all over the country competed for the title of Building of the Year 2023. The winner is finally from the capital city and we will present it in this episode of the Live Prague series together with other award-winning buildings.

Which buildings earned the recognition of the expert jury?

Ronald McDonald House

On the grounds of the Motol University Hospital you will find a house built by the Ronald McDonald House Foundation for 100 million in donations. It serves the parents of children with severe illnesses, who can be close to their young patients. The main idea was to make its residents feel at home.

The office complex in Holešovice was built on the site of a dilapidated panel factory. Together with this project, the local waterfront was cultivated. For the time being, however, the offices are relatively isolated from the outside world and thus largely empty.

Jinonica Court

The residential project in Jinonice, which was created by adapting an estate originally belonging to the Schwarzenbergs, is unique in its combination of original elements and modern living in accordance with history. Just be prepared for the fact that the apartments here are definitely not among the cheapest...

Lower part of Wenceslas Square

Prague's most famous square has undergone another planned transformation - in the lower part of the square, a car-free pedestrian zone, trees and a fountain have been created... Thanks to this, it serves more people than cars. In the future, it is planned to make drastic changes in the upper part of Wenceslas Square as well.

Štvanická footbridge

The HolKa footbridge connecting Holešovice and Karlín finally won the competition for Building of the Year. And rightly so. Not only is it a successful architectural feat, but above all it has significantly helped Prague residents to move around the city more easily.
