Baitul Muttaqien Mosque or commonly called the Islamic Center of East Kalimantan is a mosque located in the Teluk Lerong Ulu village, Samarinda City, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is the grandest and second largest mosque in Southeast Asia after the Istiqlal Mosque. With the foreground being the banks of the Mahakam river, this mosque has a large minaret and dome.
This mosque building has as many as 7 minarets. The main tower is 99 meters high which means Asmaul Husna or the names of Allah which are 99 in number.
This magnificent mosque has a typical Turkish architectural style with a combination of European, Middle Eastern and Indonesian elements. The combination of these architectural styles can be seen from the dome which adopts the dome model of the Haghia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul and the placement of majestic high gates in an ancient European style. The tower design is inspired by the minaret of the Prophet's Mosque, Medina.
