Like its larger counterpart in Amazonia, the tropical forest of Central Africa is suffering, due to overuse, deforestation and eradication of indigenous peoples. One country, however, stands out as an exception on a global scale: the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville), now acclaimed by all the environmental NGOs.

In the northern region of the country, which is covered with thick old-growth forests, logging companies have abandoned the models passed down from the colonial period. The era of large-scale pillaging is over; the goal is now to reconcile economic interests and ecological concerns. The film introduces us to an original forestry model, which combines local development with an international market for exotic wood.

The Congolese example demonstrates that it is possible to productively develop forests in a new—and highly profitable—way.
