People of black heritage are more likely to develop sickle cell disease, the fastest growing genetic condition in the UK, and doctors say the best treatment requires blood that is an ethnic match.

Influential black leaders are calling for more donations from people of black heritage after the latest NHS Blood and Transplant data showed that only 1% of active donors in the country are black.
