With Ultraman Tiga we enter the Heisei Era!

Ultraman Tiga was the show that marked the proper return of the Ultra Series after its disappearance following the failure of Ultraman 80 over a decade earlier. A lot changed within that time and with that change came plenty of talented newcomers eager to put their stamp on the iconic series – among them was arguably Ultraman Tiga’s maverick: Kyota Kawasaki. Kawasaki was a fiercely independent director who sought to take the series and the artform of tokusatsu as a whole to new places. So, in order to see just what he did and how his efforts fit into the bigger picture of what was happening with tokusatsu at the time, this video will take a close look at the several Ultraman Tiga episodes Kawasaki directed and shine a light on a now borderline forgotten figure of that era and help demonstrate what made Ultraman Tiga such as big deal.
