I’m converting a Dodge Ram Promaster into a tiny home on wheels! In this video I build some upper cabinets using an idea I took from Youtubers Eamon and Bec!

Steps And Products For The Build:

This will be the worst step by step you’ve ever read! So here goes…

I’ll start with the bottom ledger board, meant for supporting weight. I used a hard oak 1 x 2 inch board for both the top and the bottom ledger boards. The bottom goes horizontal as with the one up top. I then ran 2.5 - 3 inch spax lag screws through the top of the upper ledger board and into some vertical 2 x 2s. Then, screwed into the top of the bottom ledger board was a sheet of 1/4 inch lauan that was then screwed into the bottom of the 2 x 2s (lots of bottoms and tops here - sorry).

I then wanted a lip so things won’t slide/fall out when we open the cabinet doors. So I used more 2 x 2s to span the width between the vertical pieces, using kreg pocket screws to secure them and adding more screws from the lauan to those.

The side pieces were made with the same sheet of 1/4 inch lauan. I just made a template using paper, it’s not exact but it works. I am sure there is an easier and better way to do this but I don’t know what it is.

I painted everything the same white that we painted the walls and then reattached it using 3/8 x 2 inch lag bolts. I used 8 total. I want these things secure.

The doors are made of 1/2 inch sanded birch and attached using soft close hinges. Word of advice here… USE AT LEAST A 4 INCH WIDE PIECE FOR YOUR UPPER LEDGER BOARD! That’s if you want to go with the soft close hinges.. Because I only used a 2 inch wide piece, some of the screw points weren’t actually making contact with anything, so I had to add an extra 1 x 2 furring strip to the top to help make contact. Only problem is some of them are lined up so they go in between the seems. I will have to address that later. So just use a wider piece of wood.

My buddy made us the leather pull handles, same as the kitchenette. We had two different modes. Hang out mode, which is when they are unsnapped. And travel mode, which is when they are snapped at the bottom so nothing comes flying out from an accidental door open.

There may be something I am missing, but that Is what I can remember.

Tools Used:
Ryobi Drill, Miter Saw, Jigsaw, Skil Saw, Kreg Jig
Various sized and designed screws
The “F” word and copious amounts of sweet, sweet IPA beer.

I AM 100% NOT A PROFESSIONAL OR AN EXPERT! THIS IS ALL BASED ON RESEARCH WE HAVE DONE AND REFERENCING PICTURES. THIS IS JUST TO EXPLAIN WHAT I DID, NOT WHAT YOU SHOULD DO!
