Washington Court House is a city in Union Township, Fayette County, Ohio. Benjamin Temple established the town in 1810. Residents named the community in honor of former President of the United States George Washington. Fayette Court House was designed by David Gibbs and opened on May 1, 1885, as the 3rd Fayette County Courthouse building. The third floor contains three large murals and frescos painted by famous artist, Archibald Willard who is best known for patriotic painting "The Spirt of 76". In 1894 the court house was the scene of a riot where the Ohio National Guard confronted a large group and five civilians were killed and others injured. Bullet holes still remain in the south doors of the court house. Washington Court House has so much history, I can only show a glimpse of this town. so much to explore.
