I was actually working on another project when my friend contacted me about building a Blanket Chest. I told her I didn't know what a blanket chest was, and asked for a picture. Meanwhile, I looked the subject up myself, and by the time I had her input, I was already excited.
The design I came up with is built with cedar boards, glued into panels with biscuits; includes splayed angle legs, box joints, and a past vertical trapdoor top. The top is reinforced with oak braces, and includes both heavy duty hinges and a front latch. The project is finished on the outside with a stain poly mix selected because it was exactly the right color. No finish on the inside, except a little cedar oil, which is sold to restore the smell of cedar in chests.
