Jesus doesn’t just want to save you from the effects of sin after you die, He wants to save you from sin here and now. To use the prophet Daniel as an example, he was thrown into a pit full of hungry lions but God saved him and brought him out of the pit. God could have resurrected Daniel if he was eaten by lions, but He didn’t just want Daniel to walk out of there alive, He wanted to protect Daniel while he was down there. If you believe in Jesus Christ, you have been saved from the eternal consequences of sin; your sin is paid for and you’ve passed from death to life. You will be “pulled out of the pit”, so to speak. And if you follow Him, you are being saved from the ruin that sin brings here on earth. He will protect you from the “lions”, the ruin that sin brings here on earth. Whether you’re talking about victory over sin after death or victory over sin here on earth, salvation comes from Christ alone.
