Mahale Mountains National Park is located in Tanzania's far western region; it is isolated and challenging to reach. However, a visit to this remote park is well worth the time and money spent because it is home to about 1000 wild living chimpanzees. One notable group of these 1000 chimpanzees, known as the M Group, was habituated by a group of Japanese researchers who have spent more than 50 years working in the mountains. In one of Tanzania's most remote and picturesque parks, travellers have the chance to track and watch this population in the wild with knowledgeable rangers.
