The fake name “Ali Al-Shakati” has been circulating online in connection with the alleged Southport attacker.

Katherine Denkinson has uncovered the source of this misinformation: a fake news website believed to be run by Russians.

Merseyside Police have provide the following statement:

A name has been shared on social media in connection with the suspect in the incident in Southport. This name is incorrect and we would urge people not to speculate on details of the incident while the investigation is ongoing.
