Background:
For 90s Star Wars artists, crafting the vast universe beyond the original trilogy was a daunting task. With only a few not-so-great spin-offs to work from, artists for the first three Galaxy series had to tap into their own imaginations to provide content for a rabid fanbase who had been starving for new Star Wars content for over a decade, no matter how outrageous, strange, or downright weird it may be.

Card from the Outer Rim:
Take card number 218 from 1994 Galaxy Series 2. It epitomizes the pre-prequel era of Star Wars lore, offering a glimpse into the life of our favorite Wookie beyond his adventures aboard the Millennium Falcon. Artist Amanda Connor is quoted on the back of the card saying, “I heard Chewbacca is a great mechanic. Maybe on his homeworld he has a shop or a service station. If so, it might look something like this!”

“This”, as it turns out, is a younger Chewbacca kicked back, on his head an homage to Wesley Snipes from White Man Can’t Jump and a vintage Wookiee calendar hanging behind him showcasing Miss Kashyyyk July in all her furry glory, though with considerably less fur than Chewbacca prefers. While we may not be able to say what the green liquid is or what the similarly green sandwich is made out of, one thing is for sure, we love Amanda’s out there take on Wookiee culture.
