What are the Africans and AfroCzechs doing in the Czech Republic? 

This is a new series that Humanitas Afrika is starting to show the African presence in the Czech Republic and share their experience. 

Have you ever wondered what are the Africans doing in the Czech Republic?

Well during the period of the cold war, many young Africans came to study in Eastern European universities on scholarships provided by those governments. Some of those beneficiary students came to Czechoslovakia. After the fall of communism, it became two countries as the Slovak and Czech  Republics, and the African students who stayed back in the Czech Republic became the foundation for the African community in the country.

The fall of communism and the Czech Republic joining the European Union made it possible for African migrants who were not students to also choose to come and live in the country. As the Africans begin to settle and work in the Czech Republic they entered into family relationships with Czech spouses and had children. The children that came out of the African/Czech family unions are the ones we refer to as AfroCzechs.

There is now a growing African and AfroCzech community in the Czech Republic and some people in the country and outside the country may have wondered what the Africans and AfroCzechs doing in the Czech Republic. Our new series What are the Africans and AfroCzechs doing in the Czech Republic? Therefore is to show their presence, share their experience and make known the African and AfroCzech important contributions to enriching the international cultural space and the socio-economic development of the Czech Republic.

On Saturday, October 2022, Kofi Nkrumah and Lenka Marxova went to Prague to record the first episodes of the series.  For a starter here is the teaser enjoy and follow the episodes that come after it.

Co dělají Afričané a AfroČeši v České republice?

Toto je nový seriál, který Humanitas Afrika spouští, abychom ukázali přítomnost Afričanů v České republice a podělili se o jejich zkušenosti.

Přemýšleli jste někdy o tom, co dělají Afričané v Česku?

V období studené války přišlo mnoho mladých Afričanů studovat na východoevropské univerzity díky stipendiu poskytovanému těmito vládami. Někteří z těchto zvýhodněných studentů přišli do Československa. Po pádu komunismu se z ČSR staly dvě země, Slovenská a Česká republika, a afričtí studenti, kteří zůstali v České republice, se stali základem africké komunity v zemi.

Pád komunismu a vstup České republiky do Evropské unie umožnil, aby se v zemi rozhodli žít i afričtí migranti, kteří nebyli studenti. Když se Afričané začínají usazovat a pracovat v České republice, vstoupili do rodinných vztahů s českými protějšky a narodily se jim děti. Děti, které vzešly z africko-českých rodinných svazků, nazýváme AfroČechy.

V České republice nyní roste africká a afročeská komunita a někteří lidé v zemi i mimo ni si možná říkají, co Afričané a AfroČeši v České republice dělají. Náš nový seriál „Co dělají Afričané a AfroČeši v České republice?“ chce proto ukázat jejich přítomnost, sdílet jejich zkušenosti a představit africké a afročeské významné představitele obohacující mezinárodní kulturní prostor i socioekonomický rozvoj České republiky.

V sobotu v říjnu 2022 se Kofi Nkrumah a Lenka Marxová vydali do Prahy natočit první díly seriálu. Pro začátek je zde upoutávka, kterou si užijte a sledujte epizody, které přijdou po ní.
