We are at the border between North Macedonia and Albania, beside the picturesque town of Ohrid, in the part of the lake belonging to Macedonian territory.

Lake Ohrid is divided, with about two-thirds belonging to North Macedonia and the remaining part to Albania. On the Macedonian coast, we find the towns of Ohrid and Struga, while the main center on the Albanian side is the city of Pogradec.

With an estimated age of about 1 million years, it is the oldest lake in Europe. It covers an area of approximately 358 square kilometers and has a maximum depth of 288 meters, contributing to its extraordinary biodiversity. The lake hosts the highest number of endemic species in the world: 212 animal and plant species. This biological richness led to the lake being declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979 and Important Bird and Biodiversity Area by BirdLife International in 2000.

Its waters are extremely clear, allowing visibility up to several meters deep, enabling diving enthusiasts to explore its rich underwater world.

According to the CAA Drone Map for Macedonian territory, we can fly at a maximum altitude of 100 meters here.

We are very close to the border, so it is important to remember not to fly less than 3 km away from it. There are restrictions in the part of the lake near the city of Struga, therefore, I recommend flying in the Ohrid area.

🚗 How to reach: Lake Ohrid is easily accessible by car. Once you reach the town of Ohrid, set "Most Bar" as your destination, where you will find several parking options and a small beach perfect for takeoff.

⬆️ Flight altitude: 100 m

⚪️ Flight difficulty: Low.

❇️ Tips: I recommend taking off from a small beach called "Voena Plazha", where you will have an excellent view of the lake and the city. The only precaution is to avoid filming the Police Station located a few meters away.
