Each spring around 1/2 million river herring migrate from the ocean up the Mystic River to the Mystic Lakes and Horn Pond to reproduce. Dozens of volunteers help count herring every year to better our understanding of the migration in the Mystic. These herring population estimates have helped us advocate for fish passages to increase access to important breeding habitat. Thanks to these efforts, a state of the art fish passage at Scalley Dam is coming soon that will make it easier for fish to get to spawning habitat in Horn Pond, and for visitors to witness this amazing migration! -- The Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA)

This project was funded through the Industri-Plex Trustee Council Natural Resource Damages settlement funds.
