Cowboy Bebop (Japanese: カウボーイビバップ, Kaubōi Bibappu) is a Japanese half-hour animated science fiction series that aired on the Wowow Channel between 1998 and 1999.

The plot of the series is set in 2071 and follows a group of bounty hunters who fight criminals and travel through space on their ship Bibop. Although the series has its roots in the science fiction genre, Cowboy Bebop has often used motifs and clichés from other genres such as westerns, film noir, and kung fu films. Because of this, Cowboy Bibop often went with the subtitle "The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called ... COWBOY BEBOP"

The Cowboy Bebop series was created by anime director Shinichiro Watanabe as his directorial debut, after spending the beginning of his career working on the anime series Macros Plus. The series also included screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto, who wrote most of the episodes, composer Yoko Kano, who wrote all the music used in the series, Kimitoshi Yamana, who designed spaceships and other science fiction techniques, and Toshihiro Kawamoto, who designed the characters. The series was animated at the Sunrise studio in Tokyo.
