I am comparing retail versus hobby by opening 11 retail Value Blaster, Monster Mega, and Hanger boxes against 1 hobby box of the new 2023-24 Topps Chrome NBA basketball for our next collectible sports trading card pack unboxing/box break! The new Topps Chrome Basketball has taken the hobby by storm thanks to the Victor Wembanyama autograph potential, and one of the toughest decisions facing collectors is whether to go with retail or hobby when buying these new sets. Hobby usually has better quality, a higher ceiling, rarer parallels, case-hits, guaranteed hits, and better overall odds for a higher price. On the other hand, retail is cheaper with exclusive parallels, lots of quantity, and tougher chances at rare cards. In this series, I am setting out to find which format of this super popular set is the best for the price! In total, we have $450 in hobby packs and $450 in retail packs. Some notable cards to look for include the first pack-pulled rookie autographs of Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, premium chrome cards of the top players from the 2023 NBA Draft class, 1/1 Superfractors, special LeBron James autographs (2003-04 Time Machine & Base Bron Autos), ultra-rare SSP case hit inserts (Superfly, Rock Stars, Let's Go, Exposé, Radiating Rookies, Helix), various SP/SSP parallels (Refractor, Gold /50, Orange /25, Black /10, Red /5, FrozenFractor numbered to negative five, Geometric, Negative, Prism, Magenta, Purple, Speckle, Aqua, Blue Lava, Green Wave), exclusive retail inserts (SP Pink Basketball, Green Topps Logo, Blue Baskebtall, Orange Basketball, various inserts (Youthquake, Finesse, Destiny, Coast to Coast, Season's Best, Sudden Impact, Film Study, Power Boosters, Roundball Royalty, DNA), signature cards of the NBA's top rookies/stars/legends/HOFers from multiple sets (Base Chrome Autos, 1972, Certified Rookie Autographs, Future Stars), rare cards of Wemby, Steph Curry, Brandon Miller, LBJ, Jayson Tatum, Scoot Henderson, Keyonte George, Shaq, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jalen Brunson, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, & Dereck Lively II, and more! These boxes can be purchased at Fanatics, Game Stop, Walmart, Target, your local sports card hobby shops, and online retailers/sellers. After watching the video, vote for the winner/best format in the comments! Which sets should be featured in the next episode of Retail vs. Hobby?
