In conclusion to my railfanning trip along BNSF’s Stockton and Bakersfield Subdivisions, I headed over to my final stop at the Fresno Amtrak Station shortly after railfanning at Hanford earlier in the day. This station has intrigued me for some time mainly since it is one of the few stations within the Central Valley that serves a very large surrounding population, very similar to the Bakersfield Station. The station in particular is very interesting such that although it may appear that it is situated in a rather less dense part of Fresno, it is actually just at the edge of the Downtown area with the Fresno skyline just a couple blocks away. The station also still retains the original Santa Fe Depot and original adjacent trackside structures, those of which are still operating today with Amtrak staffing. In addition, this location also serves as a primary Greyhound bus stop, situated on the other side of the station. Furthermore, this location is specifically located right at a turnout for the double track main through Fresno, where trains meet prior to entering the single track main to the north. Although there was a significant amount of pedestrian traffic and the fact that Fresno is a Quiet Zone, the Fresno Station is still certainly a noteworthy place to railfan. Whether it is due to the geographic nature of the rail line through Fresno or the plentiful BNSF Central Valley traffic that passes by here, this station makes for a great afternoon of train watching !

Train 1 : Amtrak 710 with NPCU #90215 & P42DC #174.

Train 2 : Amtrak 715 with F59PHI #2015 & CabCar #8310. With Amtrak 710 boarding, 715 appears around the corner and will hold out just short of the platform until 710 departs Fresno. Nice meet !

Train 3 : BNSF H-BARRIC1-19A with ES44AC #6048, SD70MAC #9726, SD70ACe #9380, GP38-2 #2316, GP60M-3 #146, C44-9W #987, #4672(DPU), & #4769(DPU). Very colorful and mixed engine lash up !

Train 4 : Amtrak 712 with CabCar #8309 & F59PHI #2001. Nice horn echoes upon departure !

Train 5 : BNSF V-KCKRIC1-17A with ES44DC #7916, SD70ACe #9071, & ES44DC #7318. As Amtrak 712 arrives into Fresno, V-KCKRIC1-17A meets up and proceeds past upon 712 clearing the main. Very nice meet in my opinion !

Train 6 : BNSF H-VAWBAR1-18A with ES44C4 #6929, C44-9W #5155, ES44C4 #6706, C44-9W #4142(DPU), & ET44C4 #3816(DPU). Friendly crew.

Train 7 : BNSF B-NBYLAC4-19A with C44-9W #4354, #1002, ES44C4 #6973, & ES44AC #8895(CP).

Train 8 : BNSF M-BARSTO1-19A with C44-9W #4123, SD70ACU #7324(NS), C44-9W #4783, & ES44DC #7230.

Train 10 : BNSF B-OIGLAC5-19A with C44-9W #5446 & #4536. Awesome crew on this train ! Very friendly engineer as well with some plentiful horn action in a QZ !!! Very likely could have been an engineer I saw the day before at Merced or Turlock - Denair !

Train 11 : BNSF S-LPCOIG1-17A with C44-9W #4005, ET44C4 #3878, & ES44C4 #6888.

Train 12 : BNSF Z-STOWSP6-19L with C44-9W #4034 & #4232.

Train 13 : Amtrak 714 with CabCar #8301 & F59PHI #2012.

Train 14 : Amtrak 719 with P42DC #174 & NPCU #90215. With evening setting in, I called it a day after 719 departed; thus bringing this trip to a close and concluding what I would say is a successful railfanning outing !

Thanks for Watching !
