Hey Quite The Chap here for GolfersRX…slices are the worst, am I right…in today’s video.

Watching a ball start out straight down the fairway is something lovely to watch. Seeing it take a right-hand turn at about 150 yards out is what nightmares are made of. There is one simple move that a lot of golfers do that creates this slice, so lets stop doing that one move.

At the start of our downswing, we usually come over the top like we’re chopping wood.

That’s a no no. Here’s a drill and an image from Sergio Garcia to fix this.

Get in your address position
Take the club to the top of your backswing
And pull the chain to start your downswing
Essentially you’re dropping your hands

Don’t chop wood.

What we want to do is to stop coming over the top and creating a path that is outside to inside. The path where we swipe across the ball creating significant side spin. Remember, pull the chain, don’t chop wood.

Until next time keep it simple
