As a part of the process of getting a dust control system in place, I needed some blast gates to control the air flow. Here's how I did it.

I wanted a design that were somewhat clog free and also worked in narrow places. Without too much investigation on the web I decided on the design and started building it. During the building I also took some pictures that I shared on a forum about "my design". I was immediately informed that I wasn't first with this design! ;)
Apparantly "Geeks Wood Shop" published his version a half year earlier:    • Dust Collection Blast Gates

Nevertheless, I had already filmed everything so I decided to upload the video anyhow.

The design consist of two pieces of 12mm (~1/2") plywood with a moving piece of 4mm (~5/32") plywood in between. The design is made in Sketchup and printed with the help of Matthias Wandels program "Big print". I assembled the three parts with a M6 bolt (~1/4" machine screw) and locking nut. Then I drilled the large hole. By doing this I was sure to get a smooth finnish on the inside when the blast gate was open. The design of these blast gates are dimensioned to fit a 100mm (~4") ventilation pipe.
