At the 1999 World Gymnastics Championships in Tianjin, China, Romania's Maria Olaru turned in one of the most consistent performances to become all-around champion.
The following year at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, she showed one of the most unique, interesting, and innovative floor routines. When the dust had settled following the epic catastrophe of the all-around competition, she wound up with the silver medal.
Also, I made a mistake when stating the Romanians used outside choreographers. I think I got them confused with the Chinese, who brought in French choreographers IIRC. This routine was choreographed by Leo Cosma. He did God's work!
