Building and maintaining public trust through transparent data access procedures is a priority for Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) and a founding principle of the UK Health Data Research Alliance (the Alliance).

In this video, the two Co-Leads of the Health Data Research UK's (HDR UK) Trust and Transparency Programme (HDR UK), HDR UK Public Advisory Board members and two funded organisations provide insight into the Alliance Transparency Standards, as well as the impact of our recent opportunity in to improving improve transparency in data access processes.

About the Alliance Transparency Standards and this funding opportunity:

In August 2023, the Pan-UK Data Governance Steering Group – a working group of the Alliance – published Transparency Standards to guide best practice for transparency in data access processes. They were developed from recommendations provided by HDR UK Public Advisory Board and the Pan-UK Data Governance Steering Group.

Nineteen organisations were awarded funding to support implementation of the standards, improving the clarity and accessibility of information about data access processes for stakeholders; including members of the public and researchers. These projects were awarded funding in October 2023 and were completed by the end of March 2024.

To celebrate the outputs of these projects and the organisations’ commitment to adopting components of the transparency standards, we hosted an Alliance Transparency Showcase on Wednesday 22 May 2024. Project outputs, including posters showcased at the event, were published in the International Journal of Population Data Science (IJPDS).
