"Foot Notes: An Organ Recital" was presented at Moody Methodist Church in Galveston, Texas, on August 22, 2024 by Mary Jean Sargent, AAGO.

I wish I had the words of this prayer to give you, but unlike St. Francis or St. Chrysostom, whose most famous prayers can be found in many prayer books, this musical composition wasn’t written based on a specific prayer but rather on a saint who prayed a lot. St. Gregory spent twelve years imprisoned, and this piece was meant to evoke the thought of him praying while incarcerated, asking for both help for himself and forgiveness for his captors. I’ve added it to today’s program because the movement in the composition goes back and forth between hands and feet quite a bit, reminding me of St. Paul’s command to “pray without ceasing”.
