Edvard Grieg Piano Concerto a Minor op.16
Marianna Shirinyan, piano (played on a Erard from 1853)
Nordic Harmony
Are Sandbakke, artistic leader
1. Allegro molto moderato 00:00
2. Adagio 13:38
3. Allegro moderato e marcato 19:53
This performance was a result of a research project about the "The lost tradition of the romantic interpretation" which was done by 4 of the professors of the Norwegian Academy of Music, Are Sandbakke, Mona Julstrud, Morten Carlsen and Marianna Shirinyan. It was a 2 years long research on music by Grieg and Brahms. The preparation of the Grieg piano concerto was very much inspired by incredible recordings of the concerto by Percy Grainger, one with the Kristiansand Symphony orchestra and Rolf Gupta, the other one where he accompanies himself. Grieg used to call Percy Grainger's recording a reference of his composition.
Nordic Harmony is a wonderful group of enthusiastic young professionals and students, under the artistic leadership of Are Sandbakke.
