Today we are cutting down a giant oak tree that’s 57” in diameter. We are going to be using our brand new, right out of the box Stihl MS 661 C-M Magnum.

This oak tree has been on the Oates family farm for almost 3 centuries. We are so thankful that they contacted us to cut it down.
The tree had started to die and they wanted to take it down before it began to rot away.

We first de-limbed the tree, as it’s so big we wanted to do everything we could to keep it together as it came down. As you’ll see in the video the rot had started so when it fell it crack right along the rot line.
We used a plunge cut in the back to make the final pass cleaner and as you’ll see in the video there was very little tear out. This tree will head off to our sawmill where we will mill lots of usable lumber!!

The Stihl 661 was an amazing saw, we can’t say enough about it. For its maiden voyage we give it two thumbs up!! You can check out a little review we did on it, I’ll drop a link down below.
