Warriston's Close

Warriston's Close is actually a narrow street leading from High Street (top) to Cockburn Street (below) in Edinburgh's Old Town. These 120 steps are representative of the steep slope of the area near Castle Hill. The narrow side streets, called closes, are common throughout Edinburgh. These dark, narrow streets were often home to medieval Edinburgh's poor, and working class. The maze-like layout of these streets can be quite disorienting.
