"I'm writing to reflect on my 8-year experience with my homestay host Melanie. Before jumping into my thoughts on the homestay experience, I want to first explain the reason why I have number posted or shared my experience online.

I grew up in a family environment where we didn't show affection. Over the years of living with Melanie, I learnt that it is okay to tell someone how important they are to you. And I'm slowly establishing that side of my personality. I felt cared for, respected and loved by Melanie. She has played a very important part in my life since I moved to Australia. She told me that I have become part of her family, and so has she to me.
