অচিন্ত্যনীয় গুণের আধার সম্যক সম্বুদ্ধ বোধিদ্রুমমূলে বুদ্ধত্ত লাভের পর ৭ সাপ্তাহ ৭ভাবে কাটিয়েছিলেন৷
৪র্থ সপ্তাহে দেবতাদের তৈরী রত্নঘরে বুদ্ধ যখন অভিধর্ম নিয়ে চিন্তা করছিলেন এবং ঠিক যেই মুহুর্তে অভিধর্মের এই পট্ঠান নিয়ে চিন্তা বা ভাবনা করছিলেন ঠিক তখনই বুদ্ধের ৩২ প্রকার মহাপুরুষ ও ৮০ প্রকার অনুব্যঞ্জন সমন্বিত শরীর হতে যে জ্যোতি নির্গত হয়েছিলো সেই জ্যোতির বিচ্ছুরিত রশ্মিসমূহ অগনিত চক্রবালে অর্থাত্‍ METAGALAXY-তে তীব্র বেগে বিচ্ছুরিত হয়েছে৷ সে রশ্মি এখনো শক্তিশালী ও অটুট রয়েছে৷

বুদ্ধের স্বাভাবিক অবস্থার জ্যোতি আর ঐ সময়ের জ্যোতি এক নয়৷ পট্ঠান পাঠ যখন করা হয় তখন ব্রহ্মলোক হতে ব্রহ্মাগণ নেমে আসেন, স্বর্গ হতে দেবতাগণ নেমে আসেন পট্ঠান পাঠ শোনবার জন্য৷
এই পট্ঠান অত্যন্ত কঠিন সূক্ষ্ণ নিগূঢ় ধর্ম। ভগবান বুদ্ধ স্বয়ং এই পট্ঠান ভাবনা করে, পর্যালোচনা করে আনন্দ লাভ করতেন।

পট্ঠান একটি নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে অধিষ্ঠান করে পাঠ করলে প্রত্যক্ষ এবং পরোক্ষভাবে উপকৃত হওয়া যায় এবং আরও যে সব অন্তরায় থেকে মুক্ত হওয়া যায়—

● হঠাৎ দুর্ঘটনায় মৃত্যুর হাত থেকে রক্ষা পাওয়া যায়।
● পট্ঠান পাঠের ফলে অনাগত বিপদ থেকে রক্ষা পাওয়া যায় ।
● যে কোন সুকর্মে অন্তরায় বিহীনভাবে সফলতা পাওয়া যায়।
● দোষযুক্ত কুকর্ম থেকে মুক্ত থাকা যায়।
● যে কোন উত্তম কর্মে সফলতা পাওয়া যায়।
● পট্ঠান পাঠের ফলে লোকোত্তর ধর্ম লাভে সহায়ক হয়৷
● রোগ, শোক ও ভয় ভীতি থেকে মুক্ত থেকে ঋদ্ধি সিদ্ধি সুখ লাভ হয়৷ পট্ঠান প্রতিদিন পাঠের ফলে স্বর্গসুখ, মোক্খ ধর্ম নির্বাণ ধর্মসুখ লাভে সহায়ক হয়৷
