We are here to celebrate you, our graduates, and your accomplishments. You are here today because you chose—and remained on—a path that required hard work, persistence, confidence and focus. This year, almost two-thousand students will graduate from De Anza College with degrees and certificates. Graduates, we are proud of you. We are honored that you chose to come to De Anza, and for bringing -- to us -- your experiences, wisdom, insights and many other contributions.

No day of the year is as meaningful as today: commencement. Whether our graduates plan to transfer to a four-year college or university or enter or re-enter the workforce following this day, we know you will continue your education throughout your life.

You are those who will lead our community, our region, our state and our country with vision and passion, and with compassion for one another. Looking at you, I am optimistic about our future. We at De Anza College will always remember you, and your many contributions to our college community. As you take the next step forward in your life, I ask you to remember what you have received from this college, and to continue to take responsibility for becoming an active, engaged participant in your community.
