Virtuoso oud musician and composer Rahim AlHaj discusses his family, education, music and his experiences leaving Iraq and settling in New Mexico with Dan Sheehy prior to a Library of Congress concert.

Speaker Biography: Daniel Sheehy is director and curator emeritus of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.

Speaker Biography: Rahim AlHaj is a master of the oud who studied under the renowned Munir Bashir and Salim Abdul Kareem, at the Institute of Music in Baghdad, Iraq. He moved to the US in 2000 as a political refugee and has resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico ever since.
