Easy Ways to Connect Lantana Bonsai Shoots

The two parts of the plant that are put together in general are the rootstock and the scion. The part of the rootstock that has roots and accepts the connection is called the rootstock, understock, or stock, while the top part that is used to join is called the entres.

The two parts must be ready at the same time, the first part is the rootstock which is responsible for the root system and the second is the scion which is obtained from the mother tree which is then connected to the rootstock.

To find out more about the complete lantana bonsai shoot, let's look at the following explanation:

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Lantana flower plants to be joined
Entres of different colored flowers
Grafting knife / any knife as long as it is sharp
PE 02 grafting plastic / popsicle plastic to tie the joint
Transparent plastic for the lid
ENTRESS PREPARATION

The lantana bonsai parent tree that will be taken from the plant must come from healthy plants and free from pests and diseases and of course with a different flower color from the existing plants.

Take the scion from the mother tree in the form of a branch that is neither too old nor too young, the tip is not growing (no young leaves / dormant branches), cut the scion from the mother tree 20-25 cm long.

Trim all leaves and flowers if available to prevent high evaporation, leaving a few leaves at the ends. When trimming the leaves, be careful not to hit the buds, because the buds are in the axillary.

THE CONNECTION STAGE

Determine the branches from the paper flower plant (rootstock) to be grafted, select the old branches, then cut the branches.

The branch that has been cut is then split about 2-2.5 cm using a knife or cutter right in the middle so that the two sides are the same.

The entres that are ready to be connected are then slashed on the right and left to form a sharp wedge-like point.

Insert the scion in the lower part of the stem, try to make the size of the top and bottom stems more or less the same, try to make the connection as close as possible and there are no cavities.

Then tie the connection, if using ice plastic to tie it, it is pulled first so that it lengthens then split using a cutter / knife.

Tie the connection using PE plastic or ice plastic, by wrapping it starting from the bottom up with the tile installation system.

The joint cover uses transparent plastic to prevent excessive water from entering the joint and to avoid pests that can damage the joint, tie the lid so that it does not come off easily.
