Crayfish are so much fun to catch and using hoop nets, often referred to as drop nets is possibly the best way to catch them.
Euastacus armatus are an Australian native crustacean living in the Murray Darling basin. They are fun to catch and taste absolutely magnificent.
When fishing for crayfish, it is always VERY important that you learn, study and always know the rules. As you will see in this video, I actually almost kept an undersized crayfish, 100% totally by accident as I subconsciously thought that the old minimum size limit of 90mm still applied. What was I thinking? Talk about embarrassing!
Here in North East Victoria, Murray spiny freshwater crayfish, often referred to as Murray crayfish, or simply Murray cray are the winter species of crustacean targeted by many cray fisherman for the fine food quality that comes from their meat. Yabbies are the summer crustacean that we all love to catch.
In America, they have crawfish, crawdad and mudbugs, along with a few other names. These are all similar to the Murray crayfish whilst at the same time slightly different.
I hope you enjoy this crayfishing video. Yoy will notice that I am employing the exact same technique in this video as I spoke about in my video last night titled "How to catch crayfish".
