Detecting (oft seen on YouTube) Mission Bay (San Diego) beaches in mid-July (weekdays), I was surprised to see no other detectorists or even vacation crowds. This left me free to detect without distractions or interruptions.
I mostly skipped sticky muddy areas to avoid being banned by my hotel for tracking-in mud. Happily, the dry sand areas contained many non-trash targets. The coins (all clad) and odds-&-ends were a mix of fresh and old drops.
San Diego has never disappointed for my various hobbies in 40+ years of visits. I plan to return a few more times this year to detect.
