Laurell's music is a mix of modern rock with electronic, ambient and world influences. Her lyrics, passionately sung, are bard-like and mystical. She uses timeless themes, often drawing from mythology, and proves their continued relevance in our modern culture. The refrain of Clover Records' campaign for her is perhaps the best introduction to what makes her so special: Finally...modern music for the evolved. The six songs on Laurells self-titled EP are often spiritual and are consistently poetic. For starters, there's a song about a little girl who talks to angels and her parents think she's crazy, Little Ellen. There's a song in which the singer re-encounters her lover from another lifetime, All Alone in Love. Even in Laurells most "straight-forward love song", Fall, her allegorical use of the feeling one has standing on the edge of a cliff to depict a fear of falling utterly in love is at least divine. Her most overtly spiritual song is also the most sexual, Temple of My Heart. "Sex can be an experience of sacred union where we remember and share in our divine nature." (Laurell in a 1994 Peace Magazine interview). Laurll earned a gold record in Canada, as writer and artist on Polytel/Polygram Records with the song For Your Love in 1994. The single, originally released on RicMar Records, achieved a number one chart position in Quebec and also charted in Italy, France, Israel and Holland. Other releases from Laurll include her 1995 follow-up single, Someday, which also charted in Canada, and a 1995 Quark Records release in England, I'm For You, on which she proved "an engaging presence". (Larry Flick, Billboard) To speak of this talented and pioneering thinker as a child, Laurells poetry was published at the age of five. She wrote her first eight bar song at the age of three! (We're hardly kidding.) Growing up in Ozone Park, (Queens, NY), her sexy and odd style of dressing got her a lot of attention. It very often got her detention in the Catholic High School she attended!
