We will use our finger to make this semi - realistic drawing of a portrait of the famous actress, Margot Robbie.
We use one brush (shade) of the Paintology app available from the Google playstore, to make this drawing.
Drawn on the Samsung phone using the finger only, one brush and no other digital effects.

No drawing experience required to make this drawing!
You can be as creative as you want once you have a good handle on getting the first few passes of the drawing.

The fun of the drawing journey is that you learn as you do fun drawings and add to your skills in drawing and painting. The digital medium is popular for some of the wrong reasons. It takes away the importance of the fundamental skills that have been taught for centuries in the traditioanl mediums. This is because beginners don't need to learn all of these skills since there are tools for everything. Unfortunately, this method of drawing is good for making illustrations, anime, graphics etc. but not for the approach to pure real drawing.

It is a lot easier than you think, if you follow along to the tutorial live session of this drawing.

The Drawing Process:
In this live stream, we use the one pencil like brush to achieve the following.
I first draw the outline by loading the reference image in trace mode of the app
I then refer to the reference image on another device like a tablet or laptop and use this to complete the drawing. Basically copying from live.

This is very different to doing block coloring which captures the exact tones of the underlying reference image. In this approach, you are relying on your experience to determine the exact tone to use for the drawing.
That is the beauty of block coloring which tunes your brain to be more acute in your appreciation of the tones. Then you can apply to free hand drawing.
This has what allowed me to make leaps and bounds in my drawing skills and I can make photorealistic drawings with relative ease.

All super fun and no drawing experience required!
You will enjoy the journey of drawing much more so.

This exercise will teach you important areas of art creation which is what the game is all about.
Drawing should not be a technical journey, it is the same love and passion as we draw with the traditional materials. Paintology brings back that love and passion in drawing to the digital medium.
