At EPHJ this past week I met Yuksel Temiz, the creator of Microqubic 3D video microscopes.

EPHJ is an annual trade fair for high precision, watchmaking and jewelry subcontracting, microtechnology and medical technology in Geneva, Switzerland.

Microqubic AG, founded in Zug (Switzerland) in 2022, designs and manufactures patent-pending modular electro-optical systems and 2D/3D digital microscopes for scientific research, precision manufacturing, and education. The company’s highlight is a new digital imaging system that is modular, programmable, fully motorized, and automation-ready. The system can capture 4K images and videos of transparent, reflective, and opaque samples from almost any angle and perform measurements from centimeters to micrometers.

Yuksel Temiz is a microsystem engineer with expertise in microfluidic assays for healthcare diagnostics, sensor fabrication, and portable electronic systems. After obtaining his PhD degree from EPFL (Switzerland) in 2012, he joined IBM Research – Zurich, where he co-authored 25 patents and 50+ publications. He received Elsevier’s Young Investigator Award in Microelectronics in 2019. In 2022, he founded Microqubic AG to develop innovative laboratory instruments and 3D microscopes. He is enthusiastic about combining technology with art, especially filming stop-motion animations using 3D printing and custom-built electronic gadgets.
