These Orion VIIs were the first Orions to hit service along with the pending orders of the 2002-04 Gen-1 OG HEVs. These came to expand CNG milestones in both Brooklyn and the Bronx, with an amusing CNG exhaust performance. #7560 was sent to the Bronx as a demo in 2001, then in 2002 JGD gets this as a pilot unit. Since that year, Jackie Gleason Depot and West Farms were the only 2 CNG depots to operate these gems. Since coming into America(2007) and moving to East Flatbush(2009), these buses were interesting at first but the noise is the big deal of the community. This results for 2 units as, #7691 & #7746 to be repowered with the Cummins ISL-G and Doosan GL11K at last in 2012. The Doosan is really a best engine for a CNG powered OG to copy a hybrid power. I wish these had came into JGD, but they stay in the Bronx. On May 2017, Spring Creek was the 3rd depot to get these exclusives to extend their retirement times due to their C40LFs exported out for a repaint. Yet, College Point Depot should've gotten a few of these but Spring Creek is marked to get it. Plus in 2015, #7794 was the only loan unit to be sent to Staten Island for the S98 service. Throughout 2017 until early 2018, the 2002-03 models have retired. West Farms Depot was the 3rd and last to retire these, with the 2004 models. Until May 2019, #7817 was the very last '04 Orion VII OG CNG to retire for scrap. Thank you heavenly Orion VII CNGs for your 18 years of service out of Daimler Chrysler.
