This summer we backpacked the northern half of the Northville Placid Trail in the Adirondacks. We brought our dog, Hopper, and started at Wakely Dam. We hiked up to Lake Placid, New York, for a total of approximately 75 miles, with a resupply stop in Long Lake.

Although it was rainy for several days, the NPT was absolutely beautiful. From conifer forests to waterfalls, to lots of beaver crossings, to some killer lean-tos, it was an amazing adventure. We originally wanted the hike to be extra relaxed, so we added in a few chill days at camp; but since the weather was iffy and the hiking ended up being faster than we thought, we ended up cranking out our 8-day hike in 6 days.

Check out our NPT backpacking adventure here, and let me know your thoughts on the southern section, too—now I need to plan our hike for the second half!
