Good day! My name is Andy. How are you?
Let's talk about the Maay dialect.

Maay is a dialect of the Somali language. It’s a minority dialect that has split from the northern dialect ‘Af Maxaa’ (pronounced ‘Af Mahaa’). The Maay dialect is spoken In the South and Southwest of Somalia. The Maay dialect is known for being more conservative than the other
dialects because its speakers still use many outdated words and phrases in the northern Maxaa dialects. The Maay dialect is also very diverse with a large vocabulary spanning 9 distinct dialects.

Generally speaking, Af Maay is spoken all over the south with many clans that understand and speak it as a lingua franca. But the clans that speak it as a first tongue are The Rahanweyn and The Gosha people. The Rahanweyn make up the majority of Maay speakers. They are ethnically Somali people but their lifestyle differs from Maxaa speakers. The Rahanweyn are agro-pastoral people meaning that they follow their livestock around while also farming. The Gosha are an ethnic minority in Somalia and they live in Jubbaland region near the Jubba river. They mostly speak the Af Dhoobey (pronounced doh • bey) sub-dialect of Af Maay. They are an agricultural people.
