The focus of Dive 04 of the 2023 Shakedown + EXPRESS West Coast Exploration expedition was continued testing of the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) systems. The dive was the first of the expedition to take place on sloped terrain as the team explored Trinidad Slump, a possible submarine slump deposit. In addition to putting the ROVs through their paces with activities such as testing the zoom capabilities on ROV Deep Discoverer’s cameras, we were treated with observations of a variety of marine life, including multiple octopods, sea stars, anemones, fish such as rattails, and more.
