My security camera captured the storm as it rolled through on Monday. This is the complete video. Here is the last minute before we lost power:    • Derecho Storm 8-10-20, Ankeny, Iowa

Frequently asked questions -
Q. Why did you leave the trashcan out?
A. It was garbage day. My neighborhood has 2 different trash collection services so we all have different pickup days. Also, I was out of town when this happened but had I been home, I typically head for cover when I hear sirens instead of worrying about where my trash is :) The trash can is recovering but still performing well.

Q. Why is there a bus driving down the street??
A. This was a few weeks before school started so the busses were timing pickup/drop off times to know when to tell kids to be at the various stops.

Q. Why does the sidewalk end at your house?
A. I live next to an empty lot that no one seems too anxious to build a new home on so I guess the city decided it wasn't necessary? People just walk through the grass to get to the next section.

Q. Did the sunflowers survive?
A. Yes! The 2 you see by the driveway grew to over 12 feet tall. My office faces the window so I got to many people in the neighborhood stop to take photos with them.

'That's not a storm you should see what happened in X' - I get it, I realize my town didn't get hit nearly as hard as some. I was without power for less than 24 hours, others were without for weeks. I had no real damage even through it does look pretty bad.

'What a waste of time' 'There goes 10 minutes I'll never get back' - No one forced you to watch but thanks for taking time to comment!
