In this video, I’m going to show you How To Protect Your Dragon Fruit From Extreme Hot Weather! What To Do For Sun Damage. We've been having a crazy heat wave here in California this past week and it's been destroying a lot of dragon fruit plants for people. If you’re growing dragon fruit, this video is going to help you keep your plants safe when the temps start soaring. Trust me, when the weather hits 100-105°F, it can get rough for your plants.

So, let’s get into it! 🌵

Spotting Heat Stress
The first thing you need to know is what heat stress looks like. If your dragon fruit’s stems start turning yellow or brown, that’s your cue. Crispy brown spots? Yep, that’s sunburn! I had this happen to my Vietnam White variety because I was just one day late setting up some shade. Luckily, it wasn’t too bad, and I could step in to help the plant recover.

My Easy Fixes for Heat Damage
1. Shade Is Your Friend
The number one way to protect your dragon fruit? Give them some shade! I use an old patio umbrella (super simple, right?) to block out the sun during the hottest parts of the day. If you’ve got a bunch of plants, you might want to go for a shade cloth instead. Just drape it over a frame to keep the sun off without blocking airflow.

2. Water Smartly
When it gets hot, you’ll be tempted to water a lot more. But hold up—overwatering can actually do more harm than good! Since dragon fruit are cacti, they don’t need too much water. I like to water deeply but only once every 3-4 days, and I do it early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the sun’s harsh rays.
