In this video we check out a lesser-known PCI sound chipset from the late 1990s that doesn’t usually get a lot of coverage on youtube.

The FM801 from Fortemedia - a highly integrated chipset with some useful legacy features for us retro gamers.

Is it any good for MS-DOS gaming? Let’s find out.

Note: I am not covering Windows usage in this video! 🙂
Also note: DOS801.EXE is a TSR and uses approx 2K of memory. In my case this came off the conventional area and reduced my unoptimised setup from 608K to 606K free in real-mode.

ERRATA: I refer to some games as using FM synth when they are in fact tracker music
Bit of a double fail given it is an audio focused video - apologies!!
