This month, we feature a two-part episode of "THEATER: All the Moving Parts" on the theatrical memoirs of two legendary women in theater: Mary Rodgers and Chita Rivera.
Host Patrick Pacheco speaks with Jesse Green, Chief Theater Critic of The New York Times about his collaboration with Mary Rodgers on "Shy" a best seller which retells the remarkable and rowdy life of the composer of "Once Upon A Mattress" and daughter of Richard Rodgers. Then Jesse, in turn, interviews the iconic Chita Rivera and Patrick, her co-author on "Chita, A Memoir". Chita shares many moments from her life: her audition with George Balanchine, the head of New York City Ballet; her close relationships with Gwen Verdon and Bob Fosse, Fred Ebb and John Kander, and Jerry Robbins; and her shows from "West Side Story" and"Kiss of the Spider Woman" to "The Visit".
