The 600MW Karuma hydropower plant is a run-of-the-river project located on the Nile River in Uganda. Construction began in December 2013, and it is expected to start operating in June 2024. The project was developed by the Uganda Electricity Generation Company (UEGCL) under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and the Government of Uganda, with an investment of $1.39 billion.

UEGCL also worked on the Karuma interconnection project and the 183MW Isimba hydropower plant, which started operating in March 2019.
The Karuma hydropower plant is on the Kyoga Nile, about 2.5km from the Masindi-Gulu highway, 75km south of Gulu, and 270km from the capital, Kampala. The plant is located upstream of Lake Kyoga and Lake Victoria, with the water outlet situated 9km upstream from Karuma Bridge in Murchison National Park.
