We nearly broke our front rigid solar panel. We hit a concrete viaduct while backing up the van. What could have been a very expensive accident, turned out to be an educational experience. Of course we want to share our lessons learned.

We bent the solar panels back in to shape using brute force, amazingly without breaking the glass. We actually were able to save the panel an reinstall it on the roof of our van. Hopefully our lessons learned can help you in your installation of your solar panels. And one of the biggest lessons learned is…. If you don’t want to use screws and only caulk, don’t cut corners. Prepare the roof surface and the brackets themselves. Follow the manual. Clean, degrease, use the prescribed activator, leave enough of a layer of caulk for optimal adhesive effect. Be safe!
