No one wore that seagull haircut better than Mike Score, lead singer of A Flock Of Seagulls. Formed in 1979 during the New Wave blitz, they had already decided on the band name when Mike was working his hair into a David Bowie type pouf mullet for a live gig and had teased his hair really big when bassist Frank Maudsley started a fight for mirror space by pushing down Mike's head and flattening out the hair on top leaving the sides splayed out like the wings of a seagull and an 80's icon was born.

The initial members were brothers Mike (lead vocals, keyboards) and Ali Score (drums) and Frank Maudsley (bass), soon Willie Woo (guitars) and Mark Edmonson (drums) was hired to replace Ali during an epic brother fight. Ali soon returned to the fold and Mark departed. Woo also left and was replaced by Paul Reynolds and became part of the classic lineup.

Soon they were invited to perform on the BBC John Peel show in May of 1981 and soon earned a contract with Jive Records. Their debut single "Talking" was released on Cocteau Records and clinched the Jive deal. The second single was the #19 club hit "Telecommunication", followed by "I Ran" produced by Mike Howlett and that broke them in the US when it peaked at #9 on the Hot100 and #8 on the disco chart.

Further waxings issued failed to reach Top 50 and the band dissolved in 1985. Mike led a new band of Gulls in 1988, and then again in 1994, those singles sank without a trace. Then in 2003 VH1 "Bands Reunited" took on the feuding Score brothers and persuaded them to reunite the classic 1982 line up for their episode which led to their reformation in 2004 and they went on a US tour. Soon members were departing and by 2005 were winding down again.

Mike announced his solo effort in 2013 and was then the victim of auto theft in which his files for his forthcoming solo album "Zeebratta" also disappeared, delaying the release of the album until 1984. Score was able to recreate the songs using copies of the stolen files he kept at his Florida home.

2018 saw the original members reuniting for "Ascension" for their first studio album since 1984. The concept here was to feature the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra as they re-recorded their iconic hits.

The latest news came on May 10, 2021 when the band announced that they were going to issue a new orchestral album to be named "String Theory" which will contain remakes of more of their back catalog.
