Today, we're diving into the festive spirit with a project that combines modern aesthetics with the warmth of tradition.
All you need is a piece of scrap 2x4. free plans are in the description.

I have listed two different sizes in the plans, we will be creating the adorable smaller one together in this video. to start, I remove the rounded over sides of my 2x4 on the table saw.

now, set your miter saw to 22.5 degrees. trim off the end so you have your first angle.

then flip your board over, set your miter saw to 45 degrees, and cut your first piece to 6 and a half inches

flip the board over again, reset the miter saw angle to 22.5 degrees and cut the 8 and a half inch side.

if you wanted to go off-plan and create your own sizes, using a 2x4, or, whatever piece of wood, whatever the first side length is, plus the length of this miter is what the other side will be. (this also works on the stars)

flip the board again, the bottom is cut to 3 and a forth inches, still at the 22.5 miters

The bottom base I like to leave square, at 90 degrees. I cut these to 3 inches long.

To assemble, all we need to do is apply a little wood glue, and use a 1-1/2" 18 gauge brad nail to secure the boards
together. You'll want to make sure the nails are near the points, if you sink them into the meat of your board, they wont fire all the way through.

And there you go. quick and easy.
