September 21, 2024 looms large for Railfans and commuters in the Bay Area of San Francisco as Caltrain will have ended the era of the F40 locomotives and the Nippon Sharyo bilevels famous for their fantastic Railfan Windows!! These will all be replaced by the new Stadler EMU‘s north of San Jose, but the diesels will remain for rush-hour service down to Gilroy but utilizing MP36PH-3C’s and Bombardier bilevels without the superb “Window”. For me personally it is a sad occasion as 2 elements of Caltrain that gave me great joy are going away overnight. it won’t be the same again with the EMU’s, but I’m sure a lot of the riders out there will be looking forward to them and their faster schedules. This video is a tribute to those great EMD locomotives and those Nippon Sharyo RFW cars riding into the sunset. You will see weather from cloudy skies to brilliant blue skies which you come to expect in “Sunny California” As usual, you will hear my commentary with the usual informative, in addition to humorous and candid narration. I’m telling it based on how I feel. Enjoy the highlights of these 9 RFW rides into history!!!!😢😢😢.
