Justin Bieber may have gotten his fair share of accolades at the Billboard Music Awards last night, but a lengthy instagram post following the show revealed that Bieber was not happy.
Justin Bieber called award show goers out, saying that everyone in the audience just cares about getting camera time and the whole thing completely lacks authenticity.
During the show, Bieber performed “Company” and “Sorry” and went home with two awards under his belt including Top Male Artist and Top Social Media Artist along with being nominated in 12 categories total. However, Justin made clear that success isn’t always as it seems and it doesn’t necessarily translate into happiness. Justin took to instagram to give his two cents on award shows with a lengthy post making clear that he meant no disrespect and is grateful for his recognitions, but never feels good during and after award shows. He wrote QUOTE – “…I don't feel good when I'm there nor after. I try to think of it as a celebration but can't help feeling like people are rating and grading my performance. A lot of people in the audience there seem worried about how much camera time they will get or who they can network with. When I'm doing a regular show I feel they are there for the right reasons and to strictly have a good time! But these award shows seem so hollow. I get the premise is to award people for their accomplishments, but is it really? Because when I look in the audience I see a bunch of fake smiles so that when the camera hits them they look happy. Sure there are people truly proud of others so I don't want to knock them I'm just looking at the vast majority” Justin went on to say QUOTE – “I am privileged and honored to be recognized by my peers but in these settings I can't feel the recognition. There's an authenticity missing that I crave! And I wonder does anybody else..”
Justin accompanied the lengthy post with a photo of a remote castle, perhaps as a symbol of how isolated he feels when attending these shows. There are a ton of possibilities for metaphors here. We see this grand castle, but it’s tainted and the weather is dark. So maybe he’s recognizing that he has this grand and larger than life lifestyle and is winning awards, but there’s a sadness to it all. I could go on analyzing all day, but what do you guys think??
